Founded in 2025 with support from the Dean of Students’ Office, the HKUST Flag Guard Team is dedicated to performing flag-raising ceremonies at the HKSAR Establishment Day on July 1, National Day on October 1, and other university significant occasions when needed.
- Foster National Identity: Strengthen the sense of belonging among Chinese HKUST students.
- Educate on Flag Etiquette: Raise awareness about the history, symbolism, and respect for the national flag.
- Develop Skills: Enhance students’ leadership, discipline, resilience, and teamwork through active participation.
Open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students with Chinese nationality. Staff and alumni committed to regular training may also be considered.
Recruitment primarily occurs at the beginning of the Fall Term, with a second round in the Spring Term if needed.
- Foundation Training: Two full days focused on flag-raising and drill techniques.
- Regular Training: Weekly sessions to learn and refine skills, with additional practices before ceremonies.
- National Education Workshops: Talks by experienced speakers on the National Flag and National Identity.
- Team Building Activities: Core members will organize events to strengthen team spirit.
- Experiential Learning: Opportunities for exchanges, trips, and hands-on experiences for team members.
Members will be assessed annually on punctuality, flag-raising techniques, and attitude. Active members with satisfactory performance may be selected for university ceremonies and have opportunities for advancement to Senior Members, Core Members, or Team Leaders.
