Food is one of the most immediate yet culturally dense ways to understand a city. A Bite of Urban China invites students to explore Chinese cities—such as Shanghai, Changsha, and Chengdu—through their everyday food cultures. Rather than treating cuisine as a list of famous dishes, this workshop approaches food as a cultural text that reflects urban lifestyles, social values, emotional expression, and ways of speaking.
