At HKUST, there are more than 100 student organizations that cater to various interests of students, including sports, community service, arts and culture, and academic affairs. They organize activities all year round to welcome new students, social gatherings for members, competitions, festivals, performances, etc. Most of these student organizations are either affiliated with the HKUST Students' Union or associated with different departments/offices of the university.
 

SU-affiliated societies and DSTO-associated student groups can apply to the Student Support & Activities team for temporary storage space, a mailbox, a group email, access to shared work areas, and eligibility of booking various activity rooms, all subject to availability.

 

Students' Union, Student Societies
The Students' Union (SU) is a registered society under the Societies Ordinance (Cap. 151) and established by HKUST students who choose to become SU members. It operates independently from the University, and as such, any stances or initiatives undertaken by the SU are not indicative of the University's viewpoints or actions.
 

There are about 80 student societies affiliated to SU that meet the diverse interests of students.

Department-Associated Groups
Department-Associate Group (DAG) is a type of student group created and operated with the direct support of a university unit. It should have a clear objective or specific purpose aligned with the focus area of this supporting unit, known as the Sponsor Department.

Establishing a DAG is a long-term commitment. The Sponsor Department should designate an advisor to provide guidance and support the group’s development, including planning and advising activities, promotions, venue bookings, funding and storage space, as resources allow. All activities organized by DAGs should obtain endorsement/approval from their Sponsor Department.

Registration of a DAG
The registration of a DAG must be initiated by the Sponsor Department. Click HERE for the DAG Guidelines, then complete the Registration Form and obtain the approval by the Head of Department.

Renewal of a DAG
Sponsor Department is required to renew their DAG by completing the Renewal Form every year before the current session expires. If a DAG is not renewed by the end of session, its status will be suspended and the eligibility to access campus resources will be revoked. A DAG remains inactive for two consecutive years will be automatically terminated and de-registered from DSTO.
