Application Arrangements for MTR Student Travel Scheme 2021/2022
Starting from 2021/2022 academic year, application for MTR Student Travel Scheme will go digitalization. Eligible students may complete the application process with a mobile phone and need not to queue up for the endorsement by the University and at the station.

Application period
The MTR Student Travel Scheme 2021/22 will be open for online application all year round starting from 9am, 1 September 2021. Students who are currently away from Hong Kong may apply for the scheme after arrival in Hong Kong.
Eligibility
Registered full-time students aged below 26.
Students who are on leave and not paying tuition fee will not be eligible for the scheme until they resume their study or their registered student status is updated.
How to apply?
Application for the MTR Student Travel Scheme will go digitalization starting from 2021/22 academic year. Eligible students may apply for the Scheme via MTR Mobile App
Applicants should use a smart phone with MTR Mobile App and Octopus App installed for the application.
Open the MTR Mobile App and go to “Transport” tab, then select the “Student Travel Scheme” function to go to the online application page.
- For new application does NOT possess a Personalized Octopus with photo:
Select “New Application [1]” and apply together with a Personalized Octopus with photo according to the form’s instruction.
Upload a clear colored photo following the requirements listed on the form.
Pay an application fee of HK$90 by credit card at the time of application or by cash at any one MTR Customer Service Center within 7 days after submitting the online application form.
Each application will be given a reference number upon submission and an email confirmation sent by MTR Corporation the next day.
Once the application is approved, applicant will receive a new Personalized Octopus Card with “Student Status” by MAIL. Scan the QR Code on the letter to launch the Octopus App and follow the instruction for activation.
- For new application possess a Personalized Octopus with photo:
Select “New Application [2]” and fill in the Octopus number according to the form’s instruction.
Each application will be given a reference number upon submission and a confirmation email sent by MTR Corporation the next day.
Once the application is approved, applicant will again receive an email notification with instruction to activate the “Student Status” via the Octopus App. Get ready with a smart phone that is equipped with NFC function.
Tap the link in the email to launch the Octopus App and fill in the necessary information for verification. Pay an application fee of HK$20 by Octopus or Octopus Wallet to complete the activation process.
- For renewal application:
Select “Renewal Application” and fill in the form according to the form’s instruction.
Follow step (vii) – (ix) above to complete the activation process.
Regardless the type of application, applicants are required to upload a photo of the valid Student Identity Card for MTR Corporation to verify the student identity.

Application Arrangement for Sun Ferry Student Monthly Ticket
Sun Ferry Services Company Limited (Sun Ferry) has launched the “Student Monthly Ticket” for ferry services of Central-Cheung Chau and Central-Mui Wo routes, offering concession fares to registered full-time students at age between 12 and 25. Please click HERE for details.
Eligibility
Registered full-time students at age between 12 and 25.
Upon successful application, applicants will receive an email of “Successful Application” from Sun Ferry which has to be presented to the pier staff when making the first purchase.
Applicants are required to generate the “Electronic Certificate of Student Travel Scheme" (eCertificate) issued by the Dean of Students’ Office as the proof of student status at HERE. With this eCertificate, applicants are NOT required to get endorsement from the Dean of Students’ Office in person.
Present the eCertificate together with the email of “Successful Application” to the Customer and Octopus Service Centers at the Central Pier No. 5 and No. 6, Cheung Chau Pier or Mui Wo Pier for purchase of the monthly ticket using the registered Octopus Card.
