2. SU Exco's Fall Down Incident (Nov 6, 2019)

Summary:

The HKUST Students’ Union (SU) and SU Editorial Board reported via Facebook that an SU Exco was pushed down by an “Exit-Entry Permit holder” during the President’s Forum on Nov 6, 2019. This was accompanied by a video clip of the incident.

Claim:

Subsequently, claims were made on social media alleging that the University was only concerned with the case of the non-local student's assault and was ignoring this incident concerning the SU Exco.

Clarification:

According to two DSTO staff members at the Forum who witnessed the incident, they saw the SU Exco had appeared unwell and left the crowd himself, following which he suddenly fell down in discomfort. It did not appear that anyone else was involved in his fall. He was immediately brought to the Security Center for assistance, where the SU Exco notified the DSTO staff that he felt unwell with spasms as he was trying to intervene in the student conflict. After describing his version of events, the SU Exco did not request for any further assistance.

The SU Exco fell down due to his poor physical condition. Furthermore, the SU Exco did not request for further action to be taken by the University; hence this is not a case of the University ignoring a student.
